The festive season starts now and there's nothing better than to watch a great pantomine during the run up to christmas!

Hi Eveyone

Hope you all are well, had a spooky Halloween and safe, exciting Bonfire Night!

As these are out of the way,  the festive season now starts and draws close and there's nothing better than to watch a great pantomine during the run up to christmas!

Every year my family and I pencil in a day to go to the Southport thearte to see the Christmas Pantomine!

This year it's 'Aladdin' one of my alltime favourites. What makes it more special is a dear friend (Claire Simmo of Radio City) of the Star Swimming Academy is one of the Stars! We're so excited!!!

For more information have a look at the info below. If you want to book tickets just click on the 'Book Now' button and you'll be taken to the thearte's ticket booking page!

Warmest Regards

Celebrating 10 Years of Teaching Children to Learn To Swim

star swimming academy celebrating 10 years of teaching chilldren to learn to swim

Hi Everyone

This month see the Star Swimming Academy celebrating '10 Years of Teaching Children to Swim'. It been a rewarding journey for me and my staff. Several of them have been with me from day one and I would like to thank them all, past and present for making what the Star Swimming Academy it is today.

Over the last 10 years we have helped thousand's of children to learn to swim, some of these children went on to become assistants and instructors with us. Some went on to jobs in other leisure facilities and some went on to take up swimming as a sport.

It makes me proud what we have achieved, whilst swimming is a fun activity and a sport that you can enjoy during your lifetime, it is an essential activity that keep you safe in all types of water. So I'm somewhat proud that my instructors and I have helped to keep these children and then as adults safe during their lives along with giving many the skills to help others in the water!

The Star Swimming Academy started in humble begins as a small business located in one leisure pool but now have seven locations over Merseyside! The future is rosy for the Academy and we hope to be around for the next 10 years helping the next generation of children to learn to swim.

Before I go, I want to to say a 'Big Thank You' to all the parents that chose the Star Swimming Academy as their child's preferred 'Learn to Swim' organisation.  Without your help we would not be where we are today!

All I want to say now, bring on the next 10 Years!!!!

Star Swimming Academy Becomes A Learning Destination For The Children's University

childrens university banner

Hi Everyone

We have some exciting news here at the Star Swimming Academy we want to share with you.

Just recently we were accredited with being an approved learning destination for the Children's University, so we are authorised to sign off hours in 'Passports to Learning'.

We are so proud of this accreditation as it shows that our methods of teaching swimming and the level of instruction meets the Children’s University’s strict criteria.

What is Children’s University?

Children’s University (CU) is an International programme that provides 5-14 year olds with exciting and innovative learning activities. We reward children’s participation in voluntary learning activities that will develop their skills and raise aspirations for the future.

How does it work?

The Children’s University (CU) is to recognise and reward children for all the additional learning they do voluntarily outside of school hours. Once registered, through school, students can gain credits from participating in after school activities or from “Public Learning Destinations”. Children are provided with a Passport to Learning for them to collect stamps as proof of their learning.

Once students gain enough credits from both After School Clubs and Public Learning Destinations, they will have the opportunity to graduate at our very special Graduation Ceremony held at Edge Hill University.

Have a read of a special press release (click here) detailing how some of the brilliant children from Sefton and West Lancashire have been recognised for their outstanding achievements from last year.

If would like more information or to recommend your child’s school, please contact us rachelp@seftonebp.co.uk

The benefits of swimming in a child’s first years

Hi everyone

Hope you are all keeping well had a nice weekend?

Like normal it’s all go, go, go, or should I say splash, splash, splash and more splash here at the Star Swimming Academy! We want to thank all our students for keeping up with their lessons and are glad to say you are all achieving well!

I thought I w DSC5958 790 640x425ould do another blog on the importance of learning to swim, however cover the benefits of baby’s and toddler learning to swim. I hope you find it useful!

The benefits of swimming in a child’s first years are exceptional, uplifting and add to the positive development of the child as a whole.

Around the world researchers recognise that the stimulating effect of learning to swim in a fun, friendly swimming lesson has the potential to increase intelligence, concentration, alertness, and perceptual abilities. Along with improvements in social, emotional and physical development has also been identified as benefits of learning to swim from the first years of a child’s life.

DSC5963 795 640x425I and my instructors have personally witnessed this over the 10 years of teaching children to swim!

As parents you must have witnessed the joy on your child’s face when they start having their first baths and then before you know it your child’s development at bath time comes on in leaps and bounds!

The majority of children develop a natural love for the water through bath-time, eventually becoming extremely peaceful and relaxed in the water.

DSC5784 648 640x425It is at this time as a parent you should start enrolling your child in swimming lessons as it helps develop your child’s first social experience out of the home that involves their peers. It helps them interact, develop confidence with people of their own age and older and creates a foundation for when they start day care sessions or pre-nursery.

Whilst learning in early swim lessons they are taught with toys, games, songs, motion and verbal communication which all help stimulate learning interactions. Before you know it their confidence grows!

Many of our infant/toddler students learn to swim before they can walk. As their swimming progresses, you will witness improved coordination, strength, endurance and lung capacity in your child. The smooth and fluid exercises in the water also results in healthier naps following class.

Early swimming fosters a growing sense of self-esteem, confidence and independence. As a child’s ability to freely move through the water increases so does their sense of well-being!

So there you go, another snippet of information about the benefits of swimming!

If you’re a parent of a baby/young child and want them to start swimming then give us a call on 01704 570 487 or 0759 203 1483

Warmest Regards
