Hope you are all keeping well had a nice weekend?
Like normal it’s all go, go, go, or should I say splash, splash, splash and more splash here at the Star Swimming Academy! We want to thank all our students for keeping up with their lessons and are glad to say you are all achieving well!
I thought I would do another blog on the importance of learning to swim, however cover the benefits of baby’s and toddler learning to swim. I hope you find it useful!
The benefits of swimming in a child’s first years are exceptional, uplifting and add to the positive development of the child as a whole.
Around the world researchers recognise that the stimulating effect of learning to swim in a fun, friendly swimming lesson has the potential to increase intelligence, concentration, alertness, and perceptual abilities. Along with improvements in social, emotional and physical development has also been identified as benefits of learning to swim from the first years of a child’s life.
I and my instructors have personally witnessed this over the 10 years of teaching children to swim!
As parents you must have witnessed the joy on your child’s face when they start having their first baths and then before you know it your child’s development at bath time comes on in leaps and bounds!
The majority of children develop a natural love for the water through bath-time, eventually becoming extremely peaceful and relaxed in the water.
It is at this time as a parent you should start enrolling your child in swimming lessons as it helps develop your child’s first social experience out of the home that involves their peers. It helps them interact, develop confidence with people of their own age and older and creates a foundation for when they start day care sessions or pre-nursery.
Whilst learning in early swim lessons they are taught with toys, games, songs, motion and verbal communication which all help stimulate learning interactions. Before you know it their confidence grows!
Many of our infant/toddler students learn to swim before they can walk. As their swimming progresses, you will witness improved coordination, strength, endurance and lung capacity in your child. The smooth and fluid exercises in the water also results in healthier naps following class.
Early swimming fosters a growing sense of self-esteem, confidence and independence. As a child’s ability to freely move through the water increases so does their sense of well-being!
So there you go, another snippet of information about the benefits of swimming!
